I recall one interview. It was for a social services program to receive a large grant. Up to that point, while the video was coming along nicely, it needed something to take it beyond the next level.
The audience would be comprised of well-to-do ladies who would make the decision of who would receive funding. Here I was, interviewing this lovely woman and I knew that she would make all the difference. Her story was heartbreaking.
Making the well-to-do ladies of the foundation feel as though they could be in her place, but by simple circumstance was my instinctive goal.
Our conversation began with her guard up. Proud and resilient. Later, she realized my desire was to simply listen to her story, warts and all, she opened up. Tears welled from our eyes. It was an interview I will never forget. Yes, the client won the grant.
